Terms of Use

Short version: Typingo is a free iOS typing-practice app with no subscriptions or in-app purchases. The bundled content is sourced from public-domain or permissively-licensed datasets, attributed below. Use the app for your own learning. Don’t redistribute the bundled JSON as a separate dataset. Korean law governs these Terms.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and Codeful, an independent developer based in Seoul, Republic of Korea (“Typingo”, “we”, “us”), and govern your use of the Typingo iOS app and the typingo.vibeland.app website (collectively, the “Service”). By installing or using the Service, you accept these Terms.

2. What Typingo is

Typingo is an iOS app that turns 15,000+ curated knowledge items into typing, speaking, and handwriting practice. The app runs locally on your iPhone. There is no account. There is no server. See our Privacy Policy for the full data-handling story.

3. Pricing

Typingo is free to download. All 15,000+ items are included. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no upsells. If pricing ever changes, these Terms will be updated and you will see the changes in a future app update.

4. License you have

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Typingo on iOS devices you own or control. You may use the bundled content for your own learning, including typing it into your own notes, flashcards, or study aids.

5. What you may NOT do

You may not:
  • Extract the bundled curriculum JSON and redistribute it as a separate dataset.
  • Reverse-engineer the app to recreate a competing product.
  • Use the app to violate the licensing terms of the underlying content sources (see Section 7).
  • Misrepresent yourself as the source of the bundled content.
These restrictions exist because we are downstream of generous open licenses (CC BY-SA, MIT, public domain). Honoring those upstream licenses is what lets us ship the app for free.

6. AI features (handwriting & speaking)

Typingo uses Apple’s on-device Vision (VNRecognizeTextRequest) for handwriting recognition and Apple’s Speech framework for STT in Speaking Loop mode. Recognition accuracy is a property of those frameworks; we don’t guarantee perfect identification of every stroke or word. If the recognizer misreads your input, you can re-draw or re-speak — the app is permissive on purpose.

7. Content attribution

The bundled content is sourced from the following datasets. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
  • HSK 1–6 (Chinese) — vocabulary lists from the hskhsk.com mirror (MIT licensed mirror of the 2012 HSK standard).
  • JLPT N5–N1 (Japanese) — per-level vocabulary from jamsinclair/open-anki-jlpt-decks (MIT).
  • 教育漢字 (Joyo Kanji) — grade-level, readings, meanings from davidluzgouveia/kanji-data (public domain).
  • NGSL English frequency list — from first20hours/google-10000-english (MIT).
  • Tatoeba sentence pairs — example sentences from tatoeba.org (CC BY 2.0 FR).
  • Aozora Bunko classics — public-domain Japanese literature from aozora.gr.jp.
  • Wikiquote — multilingual quote pages (CC BY-SA 4.0). Used for Stoics, Greek philosophers, Eastern wisdom, Shakespeare.
  • Wikisource (Korean) — public-domain Korean poems (김소월).
  • Constitute Project — world constitutions from constituteproject.org (CC BY-SA 4.0).
  • English Wikisource — public-domain American speeches (JFK Inaugural, FDR Pearl Harbor, Lincoln Gettysburg).
  • Hanja & 사자성어 readings — Korean Ministry of Education foundational list.
  • Lyrics — fetched live from lrclib.net (community lyric database). Lyrics belong to their respective rights holders.
Where attribution is required by upstream licenses, this page (linked from the in-app Credits screen) serves as the attribution.

8. Disclaimer of warranty

Typingo is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the bundled content is free from errors (gloss text, pronunciation guides, and example sentences may contain mistakes). Spot-check anything you intend to memorize against an authoritative source.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Codeful be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service. This is a free typing-practice app; treat it accordingly.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms. If we do, the “Last updated” date changes and the new Terms appear at this URL. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the new Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea. The courts of Seoul have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms, except where local consumer-protection law requires otherwise.

12. Apple’s standard EULA

For the parts of these Terms required by Apple, Apple’s standard end-user license also applies: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula.
